ARTPAINTING

Kristin Haas

Hometown:

Chicago, Illinois. I now live in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Statement:

My work is the leftover or the by-product of specific situations. In the case of my current work, the situation I have chosen examine is interior latex house paint that has been returned to stores in and around Milwaukee. In an attempt to create something new I frequently purchase these returns and reuse them in my work. I am interested in using the materials of ordinary events and repurposing them as art installations.

Background:

Right now I am working on my Master's degree in art at UWM.

Upcoming Events:

I am interested in finding spaces around Milwaukee where I could install my work. Galleries, restaurants, stores, homes, etc. I create the work on site and document the process through the deinstallation. I am interested in tracking what happens to the paint over the duration of the show. With each passing day, drooping, stretching and in some cases falling occur, caused by the weight of the paint and enviornment of the space. These are the effects I am most interested in tracking.

Showings:

Currently I have three paintings up at the Starbucks on Brady St. They will be up through the end of May.

I will also be exhibiting in a group show at the Blatz Building (Jueno and Broadway) along with 15 other emerging artists in Milwaukee. Opening reception May 9, 6-9pm; Closing May 16, 6-9pm. Gallery hours Monday-Saturday 12-5pm.
