Elizabeth Huggins-Thompson

Elizabeth Huggins-Thompson

Hometown:

Stuart, Florida

Statement:

Everything starts with the pencil. Elizabeth Huggins-Thompson's drawings, collages and paintings, come from a variety of influences; pulling her creativity from nature, anything fun, photography  and personal interests, her concept drawings will start with pencil drawings & thumbnail sketches. Liz is accomplished in several medium, but acrylic paints are her favorite.

Background:

Coming from a family of artists, Liz had decided in second grade to be an artist. She has had her hand in art ever since. Aside from one year at Propersi institute of Art in Greenwich, CT and two semesters at SUNY, Purchase, she is largely self-trained. Taking commissions for portraits, murals, abstract paintings and published motorcycle paintings supplemented her career as a graphic artist. Starting out in high school, Liz worked for former Mayor Leonard Paduano at Allied Map Co. in Mt. Vernon, NY. She left NY for Port St. Lucie, Florida when it was in the infancy of it's growth boom of the '80s. Working at a quick print shop in Stuart gave her a foundation in the printing industry. She continued on as an airbrush artist for Sunburst Advertising creating site plans, color renderings and floorplans for the ever-expanding real estate industry. Finding her niche at award-winning Cotton & Co real estate advertising, Liz heads up the Hardlines Department, having drawn hundreds of floorplans, site plans, maps, as well as creating vector logos and hand- coloring renderings.

When day is done though, it's the pencil and the paintbrush that really drives Liz's passion for creativity. Nature is the biggest influence for her work, but sometimes it's just as simple as drawing what is right around her. Sketching trips are her newest passion. With a bottle of water, sunblock, a camera, sketchbook and a fist-full of pencils, she's off to uncharted sketching lands.
