Statement:

My name is Lauren Cogan Jones and I am a photo realistic figurative artist. I specialize in portaiture using a variety if media:oil, watercolor, graphite, prismacolor colored pencil, charcoal, and ink.

The main focus of my work is on faces. This is where i feel a concentration of identity, an endless variety, and a ready connection to the viewer. We look to faces to gauge emotion, experience, age, race, gender, etc...before we look anywhere alse. My goal as an artist is to capture as many as i can as accurately and compellingly as possible.

Background:

I have been drawing my whole life, and so decided to get my degree in the most obvious subject: Drawing and Painting. I recently graduated Cum Laude from California State University Fullerton with a BFA in Drawing and Painting. I was featured several shows there in my time as a student.

Upcoming Events:

On August 2nd, 2008 I will be the featured artist at The Shipwreck in Old Town Eureka, CA during Arts Alive. Arts Alive is a monthly art celebration where the local businesses in old town open their doors and put local art up an the walls for all to see. It begins at 6pm and goes til 9pm.
