ART: PAINTING
Sandy Whitaker
Hometown:
Willow Springs
Statement:
I paint local Missouri rocks, they become waterfalls, animals, insects, lighthouses and many with unique shapes are one of a kind.
Ichobod Crane's rock profile was found in my creekbed waiting for me to paint his face, hair, hat, collar and even the adam's apple which was obvious.
Ichobod Crane's profile was taken from my shelf of rocks which I call my canvas rock. The valleys, dents and raised levels of the canvas rock take on a three dimensional appearance which can be painted as water, animals, lighthouses etc.
Background:
Retired Paramedic, raising horses as a hobby and painting for fun and profit.
I love to write children's stories and illustrate them. All stories have been written for my grandchildren and the animals in each story deals with questions kids may have such as, health issues, real life challenges and solving problems.
Upcoming Events:
Ozark Missouri has an annual Fall Craft show and this will be my second year to have a booth there. I will expand this year and take up two booths. I will offer kids an opportunity to paint dots and glitter on prepainted frogs, lady bug and turtles which were once just rocks.
Showings:
I have murals on two walls in a beauty shop, a door painted in a news office, a feed store porch and two church walls in Willow Springs.
I have rocks for sale and on display in West Plains at the Heritage Tourist Center.
Other:
I offer classes for 6-10 students. Their expense in minimal and I will provide all supplies if necessary.
