Statement:

The only two things worth writing about are love and death, and anyone who would disagree has never experienced either of them.

I'm 21, about to graduate college with a major in Politcal Science and a minor in Theatre Arts. I'm anti-Epicurean. I believe in love and goodness, in the intrinsic value of human beings, in the beauty and complexity of the poor, in the wisdom and liberty of the virtuous. I doubt that Time is linear. Most of what I write takes place in a sort of expanded present, because I believe that's where we spend almost all of our time. All I can hope for, with regard to my writing, is that someone might find in it meaning, or hope, or clarity, or anything else that will be a positive piece of their Experience. I am a firm believer in community and the connectedness of all humans, that we have far more in common than not, so I am always looking for kindred spirits. Please feel free to email me at teal_huron@yahoo.com if you'd like to talk.

Background:

My mother was an immigrant, and we essentially learned English together--she taught me to read at age two, to ensure I didn't pick up her faulty grammar. I suppose she overshot her mark. My first publication was at age eight and I have won several awards since then. I work as a writing tutor at my university, I specialize in philosophy and political science, but do general writing as well. I love my job. Last month I won First Place in the Frank Sullivan Memorial Short Story Contest, and I've only now begun to consider attempting to actually get some exposure.

Upcoming:

I have no upcoming events or appearances, but I am open to the idea if anyone has suggestions. Haha.

Ashes, or a Moment with a Waiting Man

A lonely dying man contemplates the city where he will soon quietly expire, and recalls the haunting event of a childhood morning in his father's orchards, one whose relevance becomes clear only now that his own life is due to end. (This story is the 2008 First Place winner of the Frank Sullivan Memorial Short Story Contest.)
