LITERATURE: SHORT STORIES
Marissa Minnick
Hometown:
San Diego
Statement:
Hello! My name is Marissa. As a writer, I try to be thoughtful and creative. I use my experiences as well as the experiences of the people close to me to create interesting and realistic stories. I like to write about the everyday lives of everyday people, because I believe that everyone has their own personal challenges and ideas, whether they be a young child, a teen, or an adult. I am very interested in developing three dimensional characters that people can connect to on many different levels, and to form unique plots that break free from the usual structure. I believe that I can use my writing ability to show different world perspectives and create a more accepting culture.
Background:
Next year is going to be my second year as a staff writer on my high school's newspaper. I have won a few writing awards including first place for a fictional short story in a writing contest held by a local literary group. I also won first place in editorial writing in a San Diego county write-off competition. I have had work published in Teen Ink, as well as my school's literary magazine. My love for reading fueled my passion for writing at an early age, and I hope to be a writer for the rest of my life.
